PICK YOUR "JACK"

3/30/2015

Yesterday, I let the "Cat Out of the Proverbial Bag" by announcing  at the Sisters in Crime Los Angeles Chapter meeting that I have optioned my novel, One Eyed Jack, to a production company with Lion's Gate Films to be made into a feature length film!

Needless to say, I am very thrilled and I want to share in the excitement with you, my fans, by letting you pick your choice to play Jack. These are the four actors who were mentioned as being considered for the role. Please use the comment section to vote for your choice of Jack.

Please note that this does not mean that whoever is the overall favorite here on my website will get the nod (it will still be based on availability, their interest in the role, etc.), but I will certainly pass on the information to the producer.

Have fun and let the voting begin!!

Chris

Kevin Bacon
Nicolas Cage
John Cusack
John Travolta

Of these four--Travolta seems best suited. However, with the "Olympus Has Fallen" and upcoming "London Has Fallen" films in similar vein, Gerard Butler seems an obvious choice.

Congrats and good luck!

I agree that Gerard Butler has the rugged looks and general worldly persona that I imagine One-Eyed Jack to have. I can also see Kevin Bacon--he can do a street-wise and weary quality that fits. They would be my top two picks out of those suggested so far.

Thanks for the comment Christine - and for the suggestion. Yes, I could see Butler playing Jack. I will mention him as a possibility to the producers. Thanks again.

My vote goes to John Cusack. I think he would add the most dimension to the role.

Travolta has a public image as a total perverse. Cage is passé. Bacon too old and weak looking. Cusak is sexy and can do any type of role - bad guy, romantic lead, comedy.

My vote is for Kevin Bacon just because I love Kevin Bacon in any role. I think he's one of the most underrated actors. Either way, it's exciting to be able to choose from ANY of these four! Congrats again, Chris!

I have to say, despite the fact that his personal travails have turned him into something of a joke, I can see Nic Cage in this role. He's still got charisma, a deadpan quality, and a gravitas.

Of the given choices I am vacillating between Kevin Bacon and Nic Cage. Nevertheless, I could very well see Alec Baldwin playing Jack, as well as Gerard Butler. May the best man win.

I agree that Alex Baldwin is a better choice that the 4 candidates but not edgy enough (like Ray Liotta and Vigo Mortenson).

I created my impression from viewing the book's trailer and reading the online preview. I did have Vigo Mortenson on the list also, but thought Alec Bladwin to have a little more grittiness.

I could see Gerard Butler, but I'm not sure where he is as far as "bang for Buck" with actors.

My vote to play "Jack" - CAGE !!!

My vote's for John Travolta. In fact, little makeup would be needed for the part. When I think of Dead Eye Jack, I see Travolta.

I'm not keen on any of the choices but would choose John Cusack over the others....and I will pray it's not Cage. Thrilled to hear of this success for you, Chris!! I have One Eyed Jack and Russian Roulette (both very good) & will soon purchase Sin Tax, while I look forward to the film.

If these are the only choices, I'd pick Kevin Bacon. He's not physically how I picture Jack, but he'd be a fantastic choice. How about Mark Wahlberg?

p.s. to my former comment. I want to assist the casting on this film! I nominate Ray Liotta and Vigo Mortenson. They both have the physicality that fits Jack...whereas as the 4 choices we are given do not!

I think that Vigo Mortenson would certainly get the ladies to show up, plus, I think he would look good in an eye-patch.

I'm not getting anything else done today besides casting this film. I will try to make this my last comment. Definitely Ray Liotta but another strong suggestion is Javier Bardem.

Travolta is a perv and too smarmy. Cage too limited in his scope. Bacon too old looking now and scrawny. CUSAK is sexy and can play anything- gangster, romantic lead, comedy.

Piggy-bagging on my earlier comment, I want to add that just by viewing the book trailer and reading the excerpt on amazon I'd cast a Jack who's street-smart, temerarious, gritty and dauntless with a touch of Robin Hood. Like Janet menitoned, Viggo Mortenson is a possible go, possibly Javier Bardem. And Alec is still in the race, I think? Am delighted to vote again when you are down to the final two, Chris. So thrilled for you.

Before I saw the candidates' photos, I thought of Keanu Reeves. (Yum!) If I have to choose one of the four, I like John Cusack. :)

Like my sister Donna Casey, I had choices before we had choices :-) I think either Jeff bridges or Dennis Quaid epitomizes how I think of jack, but if I had to choose... Nicholas Cage gets my vote. Congrats Chris!

I very much like both Bridges & Quaid...however, I think Bridges is a little too attractive and Quaid isn't beefy or edgy enough. Think Ray Liotta!

Hey fellow casting assistants....here's a suggestion SUPPORT THE AUTHOR...BUY THE BOOK, READ THE BOOK. It's a very good read and you'll enjoy casting the part even more!

I'll second that!! The more books are sold, the easier it is to sell the movie. The easier it is to do that, the bigger the stars available.

Hold the Bacon! I'm definitely a fan but he's not right for this part. For those of you who are in favor of him, I'd like to know if you have read the book...and seen the picture on the cover.

Still pulling for Cusak, but Ray Liotta would be amazing, too- but sad to have to cover up one of those hypnotic, penetrating eyes!

I just finished watching a British mystery series starring Jason Isaacs, who has more of the life-worn face, gravelly voice and overall physique for One-eyed Jack than do three of the four actors being floated by the producers. Jason Isaacs could probably do an American accent just fine. See him in "Case Histories" (Acorn) to get a feel for the manner. I think Jack is such a unique character that people will be intrigued, and I think having an actor like Isaacs could lead to a Liam Neeson kind of franchise of sequels (similar to "Taken").
